Yeast Rolls w/Honey Butter

  • 1 lb (4 sticks) butter
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 cup warm water
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 2 Tbs yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3 1/3 cups flour

Honey Butter:

Prepare honey butter in advance. Begin by setting four sticks of butter on the counter to soften. Once they have softened sufficiently, whip the butter in a mixer, adding 1 cup of honey. When thoroughly combined, transfer the honey butter to a container for refrigeration. This is more honey butter than needed for the yeast rolls.

The Yeast Rolls:

Mix the warm water, sugar, oil and yeast in a large bowl and let stand for 15 minutes. The yeast action should form bubbles in the mixture.

Stir the salt and beaten egg into the yeast mixture.

Gradually add flour. The dough will be sticky. Add enough flour so the dough can be handled with greased hands, and then cover with a towel. Let the dough rise for 10 minutes.

Lubricate your hands with oil and form the dough into balls. Place them on a cookie sheet without touching each other. Let the balls rise for another 20 minutes.

Bake at 375 °F for 10 minutes.

Melt a few tablespoons of the honey butter and brush onto the rolls.

Serve hot.
